Good-looking, but ... (2007-12-07)
Our Taylor 1463 Wireless Weather System is one of three in our house. It has a good-looking base unit that serves effectively as our kitchen clock, but otherwise comes up short.
We received ours last year as a Christmas present, so we've had it for almost a year. The outside unit is only twenty-five feet from the base unit, it can be seen from the base unit through the living room window, and it's display can be read easily from inside the house. All of our remote units contain fresh lithium batteries.
Unfortunately, to gain access to the seven buttons concealed on the back of the base unit we have to remove it from the wall, and because the buttons' functions are not obvious we have to keep the instructions nearby. Oh, and replacing the batteries in the remote unit requires using a tiny Phillips screwdriver.
Each unit always displays its own ambient temperature, but unfortunately the base unit has rarely displayed the outdoor temperature. Ah, well, at least it has an easily-read digital clock.

What were they thinking? (2007-02-05)
I've used the 1463 Digital Temp Wireless Weather System for about a week now and enjoy seeing the large display for the inside and outside temps. The display is a little crowded though and it takes a few seconds to see what you are looking for. The inside temp and humidity readings are crowded together. They had to make room for the "weather predictor" and clock display it seems (keep reading).
I'm not sure of the intention of the design of this product. The clock display is huge which is OK if you bought this for a clock. I did not. I have this mounted next to my Hunter programmable thermostat which also has a clock display and is lighted. I have the Taylor external sending unit mounted outside of my home. The Taylor unit seems to always read 1 or 2 degrees lower for inside room temp than the Hunter. Not sure which one is accurate yet. Biggest complaint about the Taylor unit is that they put the buttons to view min-max and reset ON THE BACK. If you wall mount it like I did, you have to remove it and look at the back to see where the MODE and RESET buttons are. There are about 5 or 6 buttons in a row. I wonder why these buttons couldn't have been on the front as it is something I access daily to see how hot or cold it was over the past 24 hours and then reset them as they do not do this automatically. The unit is also made to stand with it's built in easel. If you are going to stand this someplace and never touch it this could be OK. Good Luck trying to use this as an alarm clock (it does have a built in alarm). First, it's pretty BIG and takes up a lot of room. The clock display is easy to read even without glassed but it is not lighted. That said, the built in legs on the back that are supposed to hold up the thing are pretty flimsy and will collapse easily. I cannot reach behind with my fingers while reading the front display (now that I have memorized the location of the buttons) without causing one or both of the easel legs to fold up. The weather forecaster is kind of a joke. Flashing clouds, rain, snow and sun take up space that could have been used for a good barometer display. The little trend lines could be useful, I guess but I am too much distracted by the animated weather predictor to even see them. It just seems that a little more thought could have been given to the design of this instrument. If you do a little searching, Taylor makes this exact item only in a smaller case. The display looks exactly the same and the description of both units is identical. There is just a little less silver plastic surrounding the other units display. I guess its buttons are also on the back because they don't show on the front picture. I didn't do much research before buying my 1463 Weather System. It was a half price closeout at a local store. Now knowing what I do, I think I would pay more for a unit that was more ergonomic and user friendly.
